Julia Becker, Psy.D.

I am a licensed psychologist with a doctorate in clinical psychology from Baylor University. I have extensive training and experience working with college students both in private practice and college counseling centers, including Baylor University, Sam Houston State University, and University of California Santa Cruz. Additionally, I taught a freshman introduction to college course at Sam Houston State University. This course focused on helping freshman build academic skills as well as life skills such as time management, stress management, and decision making skills.

When I first began working with college students ten years ago, I recognized that many students struggled with similar issues, which consistently prevented these students from reaching their full potential. I have provided many learning disability and ADHD evaluations for college students. Although these students are clearly struggling to achieve their academic goals, many of them do not have a learning disability or ADHD. Through my assessment and therapy with college students, I have identified several common themes of struggling students. Out of this work, I developed the SMAART program to help students build core psychological skills essential to college and life success.
